Review: Particulate Matter Emissions from Aircraft

نویسندگان

چکیده

The contribution of aircraft operations to ambient ultrafine particle (UFP) concentration at and around airports can be significant. This review article considers the volatile non-volatile elements particulate matter emissions from engines, their characteristics quantification identifies gaps in knowledge. current state art emission inventory methods dispersion modelling approaches are reviewed areas for improvement research needs identified. Quantification engine (nvPM) is improving as measured certification data landing take-off cycle becoming available. Further work needed: better estimate nvPM during full-flight; non-regulated (smaller) engines; evolution particles (vPM) exhaust plume. Dispersion improvements also needed address vPM. As both vPM sources improve, estimates concentrations will possible.

Methodology to estimate particulate matter emissions from certified commercial aircraft engines.

Today, about one-fourth of U.S. commercial service airports, including 41 of the busiest 50, are either in nonattainment or maintenance areas per the National Ambient Air Quality Standards. U.S. aviation activity is forecasted to triple by 2025, while at the same time, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is evaluating stricter particulate matter (PM) standards on the basis of documen...

Monitoring Automotive Particulate Matter Emissions with LiDAR: A Review

Automotive particulate matter (PM) causes deleterious effects on health and visibility. Physical and chemical properties of PM also influence climate change. Roadside remote sensing of automotive emissions is a valuable option for assessing the contribution of individual vehicles to the total PM burden. LiDAR represents a unique approach that allows measuring PM emissions from in-use vehicles w...

Agricultural Particulate Matter Emissions: Preliminary Study

The Federal Reference Method (FRM) ambient PM10 sampler does not always measure the true PM10 concentration. There are inherent sampling errors associated with the PM10 samplers due to the interaction of particle size distribution (PSD) and sampler performance characteristics. These sampling errors, which are the relative differences between theoretical estimation of the sampler concentration a...

Field measurement of diesel particulate matter emissions.

A primary means to reduce environmental levels of diesel particulate matter (DPM) exposure to miners is to reduce the amount of DPM emission from the engine. A quick and economic method to estimate engine particulate emission levels has been developed. The method relies on the measurement of pressure increase across a filter element that is briefly used to collect a DPM sample directly from the...

Emissions and indoor concentrations of particulate matter and its specific chemical components from cooking: A review

< Cooking can generate appreciable aerosol within the area where cooking takes place. < Cooking aerosol is largely within the respirable size range. < Fatty acids and dicarboxylic acids are major components. < Other constituents are alkanones, alkanals, lactones, PAH, sterols and alkanes. < Raw food, cooking oil, cooking style and temperature affect aerosol composition. a r t i c l e i n f o
